At present there is no suitable artificial playing facility in the town. The “3G” facility currently at the school is dated, needs replacing and not fit for purpose with numerous sessions being cancelled for local sports teams.A new facility, which can be used at weekends (school facility doesn’t offer this) will provide many sports teams in the town the ability to provide training/games throughout the full year.
This winter has seen many teams, particularly football go without training due to no facilities available.
There are 8 open age football teams in the area (4 from Millom, 2 from Haverigg, 2 from Bootle, with over 150 signed on players between the clubs).
There are junior football teams ranging from u7-u16 with over 160 signed on players, with some of the teams having to make do with training in the school gym, which is smaller than a tennis court and not suitable for 20-30 children.
Local Cricket and Rugby teams, which provide both junior and senior teams would also benefit.
