Despite its fantastic community of creative artists and makers Norwich, and Norfolk is seriously lacking in a large, Tate-style (‘Tate East’?) Art gallery / museum. The gallery could reflect Norwich’s famous ‘welcoming the world’ nature and house a collection of contemporary international art as well as showcasing arts and crafts from the East of England. This kind of gallery would be such a valuable resource to the city’s residents, it’s art students/schools and would be sure to attract huge numbers of visitors.
Norwich needs to build on its artistic and cultural heritage and the new creativity that is born there (and generally runs off to London) if it is to truly be considered a ‘fine city’.
