Accessible Whitby

A long-term approach and a commitment to making Whitby more accesible for disabled people. Access is the number one issue facing disabled people, with three out of four disabled people and their families reporting that they have walked away from a UK business because of poor accessibility, and/or poor customer service. The accessible overnight tourism market is now worth £3bn (with day visits bringing that figure up to £12.1bn, according to Visit England) and it is clear that investing in accessibility will have long term and sustainable economic benefits to Whitby businesses and residents alike.

Put disability access at the heart of planning and building design.
Ensure that all public transport is fully accessible – including Taxis
Increase the number of Changing Places toilets
Support businesses to understand access and make reasonable adjustments to their premises.
Access for people with disabilities improves access for everyone and should be central to each My Town theme.
