I was born in Nuneaton and lived in Essex for the last 10yrs. When I moved back I was shocked at the decay of the town centre. The first regeneration project of rope walk has failed. The failure of this needs to be investigated before making the same mistakes. The loss of big brands from the town centre means that many people will go further a field (Solihull,Birmingham,Leicester). Hinckley has managed to create a small but function regeneration (the Crescent) or Rugby out of town shopping centre. I think the first thing is to find out how to attract big brands back eg. Marks and Spencer’s, Monsoon, HMV, sports shops and top shop. The town is full of discounters and charity shops now. I think it is time to start again, rebuild and re-design a town centre that is attractive to big brands this in turn will create jobs. The town needs better facilities eg medical centres, libraries, social areas for vulnerable people. The cost of car parking needs to be reduce. A clean slate start again.
