With the rate at which Bournemouth is expanding, it is unfeasible to think that we can accommodate a comparable rise in the number of cars on our roads.
A city with good walking and cycling infrastructure allows residents regular exercise with long term health benefits, has reduced pollution, benefits from visitors and tourists, increases footfall in local businesses, increases social & community interactions, provides greater opportunity for those who can’t afford a car, has fewer road accidents and has less antisocial behaviour in public spaces.
We already have fantastic parks, paths and beaches for walking; issues arise from people needing to drive within town.
Improving public transport services and cycle infrastructure on key routes will allow us as a community to reap the benefits listed above; give everyone a service and an opportunity to experience Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch without having to take their own car, spent a fortune on a bus ticket, or wait ages for a bus
