Cycling in Bedford Town can be precarious. There are hardly enough cycle lanes or roads where cyclists are given priority over cars. As a cyclist going up Midland Road towards the A6 junction the cycle path tells you to veer on to the pavement to stop at the pedestrian crossing, just missing a pole that is situated nearby and the many pedestrians who use that area, it’s unsafe and not practical. There needs to be enforced rules about cycling on pavements, but sometimes I don’t blame them because cycling on the road can be dangerous, as drivers in Bedford have no respect for cyclists.
Once there is more integration, people will feel safer and happier using bikes.
