South Ribble BC does not give grants for start ups. All the advice given is for loans. Unlike neighbouring councils. So basically you are straight into debt before you even starting to trade. Also the building of small business units. There seems to be a trend of building bigger units which a small business could not afford. Councils build affordable housing why not affordable business units with affordable rents. Also for the high street for those businesses taking on buildings or business renting on the high street there should be an incentive. This could be seen as a reward for taking on a high street property and keeping the centres alive. Many high street shops are hit by high rents, high business rates, double the cost of electricity as they pay commercial rates which is far higher than residential, staff costs the list goes on. If there is a grant or incentive ie lower business rates then maybe the high streets might come back to life.
