Better Promotion of Mental and physical wellbeing

Undoubtedly, providing better sports facilities needs to be top of the list. A swimming pool and coffee shop, and an upgrade of the current recreation centre are required. It has been proven that physical activity improves a persons sense of well-being. Additionally, funding more community groups and facilities for supporting people who consider they have a need by the community I.e. those who suffer anxiety and depression, cognitive behaviour therapy and other self assist opportunities. A community bus or two might also be nice…

  1. I couldn’t agree more (although sports facilities wouldn’t be at the top of my list, this would be a swimming pool and walking/cycling track). Physical fitness as well as challenging isolation are crucial ways of tackling poor mental health. It would be great to be able to use facilities more to help challenge isolation, such as using the Lighthouse Centre in Haverigg. I would love to see more outreach to older people especially. I don’t understand why more people do not attend the weekly luncheon at the Lighthouse Centre – the food is very good and excellent value and allergies are catered for, as well as vegetarian and vegan food. This sort of thing should be encouraged, perhaps especially for those who have retired to Haverigg and do not have families close by.
