Always been a proud Newcastle girl and I’ve had 3 business”s in the borough over the years. High rents and rates and poor parking at crazy costs put traders and customers off.
Ask the people in a survey what the town needs not on face book but by getting out there and communicating with the residents as usually the decisions are made by people who don’t even live there. Stop spending millions on council buildings but then allow planning for some socking eyesores some of which still aren’t finished . Encourage some of the big players to come back and the rest will follow. Talk negotiate , approach them with a list of premises available , sq footage, costs etc .
Enforce landlords to keep the upkeep of their premises to a reasonable standard.
Sort out the old Sainsbury’s site, we don’t want lady boys or circus”s we want shops and decent parking . I would come back in a heart beat if you just stop, assess the needs, utilise what we have, encourage or build what we don’t .
