Funding for owners and tenants of vacant retail and other premises in the city centre, to enable them to convert their empty properties for alternative use; especially to create good quality homes that are GENUINELY affordable for local families, particularly those whose earnings are at or barely above the minimum wage.
Cornwall has a disproportionate number of these low paid jobs, many of which are also seasonal or part-time, as well as a high number of very small businesses and self-employed people. Many of our young families consequently find it hard to bear the cost of the currently available housing that is labelled “affordable”.
With a greater number of people living in the city centre, and of course once the current pandemic has been overcome, leisure businesses in the city should be able to attract increased footfall, especially in the evening and at weekends, making the whole city into an exciting, vibrant and profitable place to live, stay in or visit.
