Cycle Highway from Castleford to Leeds

A dedicated cycle highway running alongside the canal between Castleford and Leeds would be allow people to commute by bike to Leeds which would get bicycle users off the road network and reduce traffic congestion by getting more people to cycle rather than drive (with resulting benefits to air quality). Parts of this route (e.g. between Woodlesford and Leeds) are already in the process of being improved with new surfacing. I would suggest funding a new dedicated cycle route along the River Aire between Castleford and Methley, and also providing funding for a new foot/cycle bridge at Skelton Grange Road Bridge to allow cyclists to reach Leeds without having to carry their bike up a full set of steps.
