F M Sutcliffe heritage gallery

To add an extension to the Pannett Art Gallery (PAG) to house the world famous collection of photographs of the Whitby area taken by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe. This would include artefacts as well as images. Basic plans and feasibility were drawn up and are at present with Whitby Town Council(WTC) . The concept was to extend beyond the room housing the Weatherill collection onto an area not greatly used. A 2 story extension would also give potential for a secure exhibition area for high value loaned works. Whilst looking at this area of Pannett park a glass extension to the cafe area would enhance visitor enjoyment museum and gallery. It would also be feasible to enclose the rear entrance to make a more secure and user friendly invalid entrance. Basic plans for the original part of this suggestion are in place drawn up by a local architect.

  1. I think a conservatory cafe built onto the front of the museum with the fantastic views over the Town, open full time, would also help draw in many more people to this fantastic facility. This could also be used for events on an evening, possibly kept separate to the main museum to make security easier to handle.
