Carlisle sits between significant natural assets. The City brands itself as “City of the Lakes” To the west is the Solway Coast, to the east and south east are the North Pennines and Eden Valley. Why not “Green City of the Lakes”. Ideas
*make better use of flood defence/ plain areas. Cycle ways into the centre, footpaths (recreation) , improved wildlife areas.
* improve the walking environment of City parks and linkages to these from the City Centre.
* improve the green spaces around the City Centre eg -Castle Way replace the short cut grass in front of the Castle to historic flower meadow. Improve unkept “Scrub” on the other sides. Be radical and green up Tullie House Rotunda and Castle Way foot bridge.
*Create green spaces in the pedestrianised area, even improve some of the poor looking buildings with green facades.
