Places that are booming have an economy based around heritage and tourism, they are pleasant interesting places to visit where people are happy to spend money having a nice time. It is vital we safeguard the wonderful assets we have as a town and start to make something of them. We need to give new life to old buildings by filling them with new exciting retail and leisure offer. This can be a mix of low-rent retail to encourage entrepreneurs, arts and cultural spaces, community spaces and tourism information. A great part of the problem is we don’t show visitors the wonderful things we do have. A tourism office, ambassadors like in Hull, detailed maps and comprehensive signage backing up some proper focused tourism marketing could open peoples eyes to what we already have. Look at how Hull changed perceptions, and Scarborough is so much more unique.
