I have not been to the Commandery for a while, because the last time I was there it was such a disappointing experience. Mostly empty rooms and the need to use an audio guide to imagine for yourself what it was like. I know that the building has had several uses during its lifetime, but its most important incarnation was as a Civil War headquarters and Worcester should capitalise on this. One room could be used to illustrate each of the building’s different uses (keep the medieval hospital with the painted ceiling) but most of the rooms should be associated with the Civil War. The whole building should be turned into a Civil War study centre that would attract scholars and tourists from across the world. The Civil War collections at the Hive should be transferred to the Commandery to build a research library, and Civil War collections from the various museums in the county should be transferred to make a proper Civil War museum. If the building is as I remember, it is a wasted space.
