I think traffic congestion is a significant problem in Darlington and a restraint on economic growth in this area. If successful in its bid DBC should consider capacity improvements to the main arterial roads into Darlington such as the A167 North Road and A68 West Auckland Road/Woodland Road. In other towns main routes into the town centre have been dualled such as in nearby Hartlepool. Yes this does involve significant works but this is a one off chance to acquire significant funds from the government. This is necessary to have a modern road system and not a Victorian one as we have at present.
I would also suggest the council work to incentivise residential development in and close to the town centre to help with increasing footfall and vibrancy of the central area. There are many vacant plots of land near to the town centre that currently operate as surplus car parking, particularly adjacent to the ring road which can give the impression of an empty town with too much empty land
