Whatever is done should build on the strengths of the area. The coastline is spectacular but the town centre is drab and lacking in attractive amenities. Could the town centre be opened out to make better use of the beautiful coastline. Like Tynemouth where the front street is like a pathway to and from the beach and there are good quality cafes bars and shops throughout. There are some great little cafes already, Frameworks etc new businesses in the area should aim to support and provide a wider offering as oppose to taking business away from already established, effective businesses. E.g. a small cinema like the jam jar in Whitley bay or good quality restaurants that offer different cuisines. Consideration should also be given to the type of customer the town centre needs to cater for and prices set accordingly. Perhaps with different areas to cater for different price ranges
