In Sutton, most ambitious young people leave the area because there of a lack of good opportunities. This leads to a “brain drain” and an ageing population. A lot has been done to cater for the older generations, including the Sutton heritage stuff in the Idlewells, but not much is being done for young people. We need better youth centres to keep kids off the street and help them put their skills to good use, but we also need some more investment in businesses that can help the young people get involved with valuable industry. This would not only bring revenue to the area, but would also encourage young people to stick around and build lives here. Most people have to commute out of Sutton to get employment like this, why not bring it home?
