Restore the LaScala theatre, with a community hub/café area downstairs.
The café culture in the town is not necessarily suitable for older residents or young families. The hub could include a café, soft play area to attract families & offer events for older residents such as afternoon teas & cinema screenings in the theatre. The closure of Pensions House has created a void for our older residents.
Include a central meeting place, one stop shop area for town centre services, pop up surgeries and promotional events/consultations.
The restoration of the theatre would see the bringing together of heritage and new culture. It could be used as an extension to outdoor street entertainment and could be used by local schools/colleges for performing arts and exhibitions.
A hub for all ages could help build a more cohesive community, transform an existing, unused and beautiful building and provide a focus for the community directly in the Town Centre.
