After recently visiting South Ribble tennis center at Bamber Bridge near Preston I was left wondering why Southport has no equivalent. The facility at Bamber Bridge contained six full size tennis courts which are used for a variety of activities such as archery, gymnastics, tennis, cricket practice, there is also a fitness gym and 4 external five a side football pitches. My 10 year old plays football, finding training facilities during the winter months is challenging in Southport, this is usually in a school sports hall or the sports hall at the college neither of which are ideal as space is limited. A facility containing some indoor 3G pitches and other courts would be well used in Southport by football teams alone let alone the countless other activities that would be possible in such a versatile space. For reference I have seen indoor 3G pitches at the DW stadium, Wigan. It’s time Southport had some major investment in leisure facilities. Don’t like hearing kids say there bored.
