I attended the session led by Wayne Hemmingway last night. It was appalling. He had clearly done no research into the local area or its economy and shouted down locals ideas trying to push his own middle class recycling agenda. His big idea was that the town should throw out the local food traders and cafes in the market and fill it with secondhand clothes! Fortunately some people did stand up to his bullying and suggested genuine ideas, I particularly liked the sound of a seafront arts and music venue for young people, and the suggestion that there is much that goes undiscovered and how unique signage and maps could encourage people to experience a different Scarborough to the one they know. I am happy for any LOCAL ideas to go forward, but not those of a bullying ignorant so-called expert.
