I have been growing increasingly aware of the poor state of Torquay town and particularly the inner harbour. Every year thousands of visitors (including cruise ships) and locals come to Torquay, but with Torquay Inner harbour in its current state, there is little incentive for families and tourists to spend any time in Torquay, and I Believe this is a key factor in the failed regeneration of the area. I hope there is some scope in the plan to update the inner harbour into an environment that families and visitors can once again spend significant time and money.
In particular, the harbour side along Victoria parade is now a hazard, and needs significant modernising. Why doesn’t the council remove the taxi rank on Victoria Parade and make it into a nice place where families and disabled can come and relax by the harbour. Get rid of the eyesore white poles and tacky lights and hire a designer to make it fun and aesthetically pleasing as other now booming seaside towns have managed to do!
