  1. Completely agree that Runcorn Old Town poses a fantastic opportunity for independent shops, artisans and makers. The town is stacked in history, surrounded by waterways and has some stunning architecture. Old empty buildings (e.g the old library) should be opened up for fledgling businesses, to rent small spaces for a reasonable sum.
The close proximity of the railway station (direct link to London in 2 hrs, or Liverpool in under 15mins) and the proposed reopening of the locks would bring visitors and breathe life back into the town.
Look to Liverpools Baltic Triangle or Lark Lane, Altrincham Market or Hebden Bridge for inspiration.
Take note of the success of the Independents who have already set up in the old town, and work to develop that model.
Make more of what we have that is unique, so that people want to stop off not just go past en route to the cities.
