We have a large and flexible market square which could host a more diverse range of activities aimed at different groups and encourage footfall, the market itself is lack-lustre and unappealing. More should be done to maximise the Civil War heritage and this could attract families into town who in turn will visit other locations and use local restaurants etc. Access to the National Civil War museum should be subsidised for people living in the town. The town is compact with the river Trent close by – there is much that could tempt visitors from larger cities (Nottingham, Lincoln, Sheffield) to experience something unique & relaxing. Getting around the town by car can be difficult – free or subsidised parking for special events could help.
