Promote Darlington as a food & drink destination

We have a number of excellent food producers and retailers as well as a number of very popular real ale pubs in the Yards, Grange Road, Consicliffe Road and Duke Street. The very successful street food Pease Pudding Markets, held in the market square over the summer, have shown that there is a demand for high quality food and drink in the town. This needs to be harnessed by promoting food and drink trails in the town centre, to attract visitors.

Our assets include being on the East Coast mainline and we have just been awarded Purple Flag status as a safe place for a night out. We have a good selection of hotels as well as low-cost taxis. Together with the council’s plans to redevelop the Indoor Market with a winter garden food area, we have a lot of strengths which could be promoted as an overall package. This would show visitors that there is plenty to enjoy on a day out or an overnight stop in Darlington.
