Re-opening Newport (Shropshire) Train Station

For the restoration of the Newport (Shropshire) Train Station or the opening of a new Newport Train Station.

The loss of a station is considered a huge loss to the town, which is considered as having a huge potential as a commuter town. It is considered that since the reinstatement of the line as far as Telford International Freight Park in Donnington, a Newport station is now more feasible.

A station in the town would be of huge benefit to the town, linking Newport to surrounding areas like Shrewsbury, Wellington, Telford (Central), Wolverhampton and Birmingham. This would be hugely beneficial in terms of visiting, tourism and commuting.

  1. Yes, excellent idea – and would connect the whole of Shropshire to the West Coast main line at Stafford (and the potential benefits of HS2). Newport needs a new rail link.

  2. Great idea as Newport is a rapidly growing town with very poor connectivity. There is increasing demand from over 3,000 students/staff at Harper Adams Univ and a rail link to Wellington would improve access to the PRH hospital near Wellington station.

  3. An excellent idea and it would also be a useful link for the whole of Shropshire to the West Coast main line at Stafford (and join up with HS2).
