By some key demolitions Dudley Street can be reextended through the Wulfrun Centre, joining it on to Cleveland Street. Access to the car park can be via a new multistorey on the site of the Neville Garratt centre. The shops on Cleveland Street should have their shop fronts brought up to the edge of the canopy, and then extended further into the street with double height frontages, creating a new High Street very inexpensively. Cleveland Street itself should then be mostly pedestrianised. All of this will spur future development in Southside, help provide much needed modern retail spaces, and allow a lot of the less suitable shops in the city to be repurposed. This also links Dudley Street to Victoria Street helping keep those shops viable. It will also have a side effect of lessening rents in Dudley Street, which will allow independents to take the spaces left by some high profile retail closures of late. Those names can be attracted back in by this new high street development.
