Business rates are extortionate, driving out small local businesses along with larger companies that deem Torquay branches to be a loss rather than investment. Lowering this will allow businesses to remain in the town, keep locals from going elsewhere and will also help the hospitality industry by creating footfall. Business rates cannot be abolished but should be adjusted to suit a struggling local economy and promote growth.
In turn, this creates jobs, stability and general interest in the area, further driving Torquay to develop into a thriving town.
