Our town centre is a bit of a ghost town with shops closing down and a lack of variety. It would be great to see a good mix of residential and evening activities as well as independent and chain shops. More funding to support independent, local business owners and more (free) parking would also hugely benefit the town. If we could bring something to create a new ‘heart’ to the town centre that would be amazing, like extending the canal back into the town centre (with the correct safety and flood defence features, of course) or modelling a new shopping centre to look similar to the one in Oxford, while not detracting from the Outlet Village. Two final and very important considerations are to keep the walk in centre open – it’s a life line to so many – and to do more to support the people of Swindon who are homeless.
