The river barrage being constructed should now have the second phase commenced which will provide a permanent higher River Witham water level adjacent to the town centre

  1. The River through the town is currently a mess, but could easily be transformed to bring new life to the centre of the town, and a flow of boating traffic to and from Lincoln and the Fenland Waterways Link. This can only happen if a sectored gate lock is put in next to the barrier. This would also facilitate the running off of excess rain water from the Witham and South Forty Foot Drain, as a larger exit would cope better in times of high flow. Floating pontoons in the town could make the town attractive to boaters from far and wide.

  2. If the barrier is used to hold the water level up it will prevent boats from coming in from the sea in time to travel through the town and grand sluice to reach the moorings ortravel on up river. What we need is a sectored gate lock alongside the barrier. This would make for full access to the river through the town or into the South forty foot drain using its new lock or on up river. We could have pontoon moorings in the town centre and be a haven for boaters. Access to the river in Georgian times brought a boom in Boston, and could again.
