Bourne Leisure own the Iron Duke & were going to demolish it, but luckily it is now a listed building. Bourne will not restore the pub, & the Council need to make a compulsory purchase order, to save this iconic piece of Yarmouth’s heritage, which has been left to become derelict. It was the flagship Lacons pub, designed by the former mayor, architect AW Ecclestone, & made by master craftsmen. The Iron Duke ship that it was named after was involved in the battle of Jutland. If nobody can be found to take over as a pub/restaurant, it would make an ideal place for a museum with cafe.
