I believe a huge problem is the social aspect after 5/6pm most stores are closed. You’ll potentially get one or two bars that are still open but they are few and far between. I tend to go to Birmingham for shopping, for food, for drinks as places open way later, there is a large amount of choice and it’s just a lot more modern in my opinion. You have to think in a world full of social media people like focal points to take pictures so have something to lure people in which will get them sharing it with their friends and family which will in turn bring in more people to the city. We have half a town with closed, derelict looking shops give them a lick of paint and maybe even offer a few months free rent and/or business rates to generate interest.
