Steam train link to Bishop Auckland and Shildon

Bishop Auckland is enjoying the success of the huge investment in the Auckland Project. Darlington could benefit from this by offering a unique experience – travelling there by steam train.
The Kynren outdoor show in Bishop Auckland has been an unbelievable success. The Prado Spanish Art Gallery, Mining Art Gallery, and the Bishops Palace are set to generate large numbers of national and international visitors. However, Bishop Auckland lacks hotels, while Darlington has a good range of them. They could be marketed as a heritage package, along with a steam train journey to and from Bishop Auckland.
The National Railway Museum has announced its intention to strip the Darlington railway museum of its star attraction – Stephenson’s Locomotion steam engine. If that goes ahead, a steam train service from Darlington to Bishop Auckland would allow a stop-off to see it at the Shildon museum and allow Darlington to make the most of its industrial heritage links with this part of County Durham.
