I avoid the shops in town and so do many others, because wherever I walk in town, despite it being a “public area”, myself, my wife and my son have to walk through a smog of cigarette and cannabis smoke. Particularly around entrances to Queen street and the cornmill. Improved signage to keep the town smoke free, would I feel encourage more people to use the shops and prevent the littering of fag ends in the streets. Also as our council tax had increased to pay for vandalism etc. more police presence in this area, in particular on a night as I often witness teenagers littering and causing a nuisance. There are public space protection order signs dotted around the local parks yet no body actually enforces this stuff.
