The industrial revolution was built in towns like Middlesbrough. Once rich industry, be it chemical, iron, energy or shipmongering. However now we are a town without a purpose. Poverty has stripped us of this and poverty is one of the most dangerous risk factors any individual can face. Its evidenced to increase risk of heart disease cancer, in fact every chronic illness as well as social and educational issues.
We have in Middlesbrough the start of many projects that are never complete. The funding in my opinion would be best used to complete them. At middlehaven the development to draw buisness to the area fell flat. Further investment could turn this around.
Rather than starting a fresh build on what we have. We have a rich steel industry in Redcar, recently sold out and causing unemployment, change this.
Work with the under privileged youth, give them a sense of purpose, with community schemes and skilled support bringing out their potential for the future of our town.
