As shopping moves online we see everywhere empty shops. We have an existing initiation here called empty shop where Arteta use empty premises to exhibit work. I feel as high street shopping falls from favour that we in Middlesbrough should lead the way by regenerating the centre, not by showing in more pound shops but by making it a cultural hub that is family centred and welcoming to all. We need to draw on the international cultural repository we have on our doorstep by welcoming and embracing these cultures too, much like the free lunch at MIMA, where anyone can go and eat for free and meet new people, their neighbours.
Town centres need to move away from commerce and toward a more community, culture and family focus
