Safe Motorhome Stopping Places

I agree with all the comments about motorhomes visiting Bedford. You as a town are missing out on a large amount of revenue. We motorhomes travel all year round (when we are allowed). Most towns forget that we are self contained and most of the time only need somewhere to park and sleep overnight. Most […]

Safe overnight stops for motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Motorhome Overnight Parking Area

Overnight stops for fully self-contained motorhomes/campervans. This would be overnight parking (not camping) allowing sleeping in the vehicle. There are over 250,000 motorhomes registered in this country. Having somewhere to park that is accessible for the city centre will increase tourism and boost sales in city centre shops/pubs/restaurants etc. This has worked well in places […]

A theatre

Bedford needs a proper theatre in the Frank Matcham style that everyone would recognise. A large stage and an orchestral pit. The Place is maybe a bit too intimate. The Quarry theatre at St Luke’s is ok for small productions, but not musicals. The Corn Exchange is a big room. A stylish theatre, maybe 1 […]

Town Centre

Improve the spaces we already have! Open shops (clothing/electronics/classes/etc.) that target the demographic that is Bedford! Family-friendly spaces with both safety and an affordable budget! Get people to complete surveys on what online shops they use/how regularly they’re using them/why, then place those shops appropriately, Using the many empty units around town centre to create […]

New cycleways

Bedford is surrounded by beautiful countryside yet there is very limited access to explore it via bicycle. There are roads but these are usually busy, narrow and national speed limit, so puts a lot of people off taking their family for a leisurely cycle ride through the countryside. In addition the cycle links between adjacent […]

LOOKS!

Make Bedford look better, midland road, prebend street, Ampthill road. Add a five guys and bring back shakeaway. Build a stadium. But mainly make Bedford look better.

LOOKS!

Make Bedford look better. Change midland road prebend street and Ampthill road. Add a five guys, and bring back shakeaway. Generally make Bedford as a whole look better, only where places look run down.

Cleaning the dilapidated areas

There are some areas of Bedford (in particular, the neighborhoods in between town and the train station) that is just not very pleasant to look at. Every building has cracked walls and paint coming off the stonework. I can see the architecture of these buildings with their great stone pillars and carved stonework; I bet […]

Shopping

Why are we not reducing shop rates and rents to fill the empty stores we have lost so many large stores in the town. What are the council doing to encourage new trade. Surely it’s better to have some rent than none. I dont want to go to out of town shopping areas I want […]

Pop up shops

Incentives for landlords the reduce rents in empty shops to allow pop up shops for small business to give the high street a go. Surely some rent is better than no rent.

AQUAPARK

Big modern aquapark with many different temperature swimming pools and several slides, palm trees, sand beach, this is something standard already in many European countries, but nowhere to find in England. New jobs for many local people and tourists which will bring cash to support the local businesses, restaurants etc.

Improve facilities for youngsters and area around railway station

Build a larger/multistory car park for the railway station Improve the area around there to make Bedford an inviting area to be in on alighting from the train Improve facilities for young people, bowling/arcades etc Consider improvement of traffic flows through the town with additional housing being built everywhere could also be done by improving […]

Donation to schools

Perhaps donating £1Million to each school in Bedford. The schools are responsible with what they do with this money. The rest of the money should then be used to fix potholes and cleaning up the Town Centre.

Potholes

Unless you fix the roads who will want to go into Bedford if it wrecks your tyres and suspension.

5G Town

I’d focus on a plan underpinned by 5G that put technology at the heart Bedford, as a Town of the Future. Work with major 5G suppliers, one or two international cities doing this well/planning to do so (Barcelona/Berlin/New York), Surrey/Kings College/5G research institutions and local business and citizen user groups to plan and deliver a […]

Trees- a more mature Bedford

We have lots and lots of grass verges on the side of footpaths and it would be great to invest in growing some trees on these to give Bedford a tree-lined feel. Obviously size of trees should be considered so house foundations aren’t disturbed but the trees could provide a great habitat for birds too.

Rejuvenate the High Street

Bedford High Street and surrounds were once buzzing and busy with a range of shops and leisure activities. This has dwindled in recent years due to the significant rates bills imposed on small retailers and businesses and therefore lack of interesting or decent shops. The recent investment into the riverside seems to be ignoring the […]

Better Transport/support services

There are not enough places to support people with mental health issues. This plays a major part for the current generation who arent able to travel longer distances to get the help or advice they need to make it through day to day life Just another brain storm, The quality of the roads in the […]

Integrate transport

At present there is no sensible link between train, bus and town centre. If the towns share of the money, which won’t be a massive sum, can be spent designing and implementing links between the train station, bus station and local population centres more people would use public transport. This would have environmental benefits, taking […]

Justice for Homeowners

I suggest that Bedfrord Borough Council take over the management and upkeep of the greenspaces on all new and existing housing developments that are now managed by private companies. This would give fairness and justice to homeowners who pay full council tax while the borough council doesn’t give a full service. This would put a […]

Indoor Ice rink

An indoor ice rink..something that’s missing from nearby towns too even MK doesnt have one.. it would be great way to drive people into Bedford.. and great for younger kids and adults.

Sort out transport

The traffic getting into Bedford is ridiculous. Everyone drives into town from the same places. If the bus from Clapham was free, instead of upwards of £5 return a day, people would choose that route into town, the same with routes in from other places. The roads are ten years behind what they should be, […]

Disabled friendly activities

There are alot of disabled people who cant do much. This is because none of the roads or pathways are level would love to see things change. Also more solutions for young people who have only trouble ahead life is hard anyway without constant worry of knifes ending lives.

A list of things

In no particular order, just my thoughts: 1) Sort out the transport. We wasted millions on a bus station, and the busses don’t even go to the train station, you have to walk for 10 minutes from the station, and the busses are only 1 or 2 an hour and cost a fortune. 2) Bring […]

Train Station

Bedford is a sizeable commuter town to London. The station needs improving to allow for the volume of passengers using this station. Suggestions: – New entrance from the other side of the station; will reduce Car congestion and foot traffic to station road due to drop offs etc. As many people live on the opposite […]

Things to do!

We need entertainment other than two cinemas and restaurants and bars. Bowling alley, escape rooms, indoor play areas like trampoline parks or inflatables, or just indoor play areas (open to adults some evenings too like playzone in Portsmouth for example). There is just nothing to do in bedford, end up travelling to MK. No surprise […]

Town Centre

We need to incentivise independent shop owners to the town centre. Subsidising rates to make it a more accessible place. By drawing in independent shops not only will this boost the local economy but it will also offer a different service to that which Milton Keynes offers. Bedford has suffered majorly as a result of […]

Funding for NGO’s in Bedford

Help fund the agencies […]

Resurface Ampthill Road

The recent resurfacing of Ampthill Road has been unsatisfactory, and has just added patchwork quilt to the existing crumbling away road surface. The new road surface is unlikely to last more than a couple of months. Given the amount of traffic Ampthill road sees, and it’s critical nature as a route into the A&E, a […]

Free parking/ help retail

Introduce parking schemes to keep people coming to Bedford, invest in Bedford to ensure people continue to come and shop here so customers don’t go elsewhere and Bedford turns into a ghost town. With so many shops closing the town centre needs help.

Better cycle lane infrastructure

Cycling in Bedford Town can be precarious. There are hardly enough cycle lanes or roads where cyclists are given priority over cars. As a cyclist going up Midland Road towards the A6 junction the cycle path tells you to veer on to the pavement to stop at the pedestrian crossing, just missing a pole that […]

Park and ride

I would like to suggest a park and ride service into the train station, town and hospital based near Clapham. Traffic from villages going past the Sainsbury’s roundabout would be decreased. It would encourage people to use the train as often after 8am there is no parking at the station. It could be a drop […]

Public services

More funding into policing and Bedford hospital. Crime appears to be rising but not much being done to fight it(Robberies in particular). Bedford hospital is merging with Luton but Luton us likely getting more of the benefits. Don’t forget about Bedford hospital , we need it!! Also, less coffee shops/gyms and more children’s indoor/outdoor activities […]

Family friendly entertainment

Bring the town centre back to life!

Money to be invested into the town centre so that remaining shops can stay open and empty units can be filled. The new “riverside north” totally flopped and needs empty units filling too! Pathways and Roads!!!

Improve pathways, especially cycle paths that have holes and uneven ground which reduces the life time of tires, which I had to find out from personal experience cycling to London road from Shortstown for work. Improve Town Centre

Invest money to better police the town centre and make it feel safe again. Investment can also be used to provide more activities for teenagers. Safe hang out areas and funding to provide youth workers would make the world of difference. This is of course our future generation and we must look after them.

Things to do

I would like to suggest an investment in activities in and outdoors around Bedford. There is nothing to keep us entertained, we have 2 cinemas, and many pubs and bars but no activities like bowling, go carting, escape rooms, rock climbing or games arcade. For people that don’t drive, many activities are out of reach, […]

Entertainment

Lots of shops are closing and shopping in general has changed with the rise of online shopping. Maybe it’s time to fill those huge units with something else – bowling, skating etc. Things that people can do and this will also attract more footfall to the town centre and the shops that are struggling.

Activities

Activities for people to do/ go on a evening/night time for people who would like to go out with friends but not have to go clubbing for this, as not everyone enjoys going clubbing and that seems to be the only thing you can go on a nighttime in Bedford.

Youth centres for 13-18yr olds

We are desperately short of professionally run youth clubs/centres for teenagers in Bedford and especially the rural villages. In order to keep them off the streets and getting involved in anti-social/criminal behaviour, we need to provide safe places for them to hang out and meet their friends, whilst being able to access support and advice […]

Renovate Aspects Leisure Centre!!

Relics of the old Zapp Zone still hang in the windows of this abandoned unit for over 25 years now. Although it almost became an extra cinema screen, its time to do something with these empty units.
