If what used to be Princess St was connected to Wharf St, then it would be much easier to reach the Canal basin, that has so much potential!

Overnight stops for self-contained motorhomes, overnight parking (not camping) allowing sleeping in the vehicle. There’s 250,000+ registered UK motorhomes. Having somewhere to park accessible to the town will increase tourism and boost sales in shops/pubs/restaurants etc. This work’s in places like Canterbury, and indeed throughout Europe (a network of nearly 4000 in France, but also […]

If Huddersfield Rd was realigned over the corner of Sainsbury’s car park, then connections between Bethel St, Bradford Rd & Lawson Rd could be improved, especially if these streets were pedestrianized!

The triangle of land between Cliffe Rd, Huddersfield Rd to the East, Gooder Ln and the railway line to the South would make a nice green space if the existing businesses were relocated to the planned Clifton buisness park. This could be intersected with pleasant wide footpaths to improve key East – West links .

Don’t pedestrianize Commercial St but do pedestrianize Market St, Briggate, Bethel St and the town centre bit of Bradford Rd!

Have a big free car park, the site occupied by Wilko’s would make a great location if it could be relocated to the other end of town between Tesco’s & Sainsbury’s.

Make a second Canal basin that is more central to the town and surround this with an attractive public space!

The River Calder could do with a bridge between Cliffe Rd and the Rokt Climbing Gym like those that are to be built in Elland! It would also be ideal if this connected directly to the railway station!

Build an iconic modern station building for Brighouse with modern facilities, preferably in the triangle between Huddersfield Rd and Gooder Lane. Also proper waiting rooms on the platforms like those at Shipley!

Turn all the land between Bridge Rd & Huddersfield Rd into much needed housing with nice public green spaces overlooking both the Canal and the River!

Everyone loves going to Hebden Bridge, the quirkiness, independent shops and some chain stores too. Cafes, new bars for all ages. Make more of the old flour mills, more gift shops to keep us in buying for friends presents. Make people want to just come, wander around , eat ice cream, feed the birds on […]

We have a river and canal, plus the canal basin. Access to this could be improved with walks and seating as well as encouraging leisure businesses. The river in particular is almost completly inaccessible at the moment. Perhaps flood defences and improved access could go hand in hand.

Anyone that uses the A641 at peak times will relate to the utter chaos that congestion causes. Investment into our town centre road network could go a long way to easing this.

Currently the trains from Brighouse are few and far between. Very often delayed and only a single carriage. As many people rely on these for commuting it would make sense to make these slightly more frequent. Especially as many trains already go through brighouse, just don’t stop…

The picturesque footpath along the canal is just covered in rubbish. Most of it due to recent floods. I can’t help but feel no one is eager to get that cleaned up…

The road network surrounding Brighouse Town does not encourage visitors. It doesn’t showcase what Brighouse has to offer. Key routes into Brighouse (such as routes from M62, Huddersfield, and Bradford) are constantly clogged with traffic. Can some areas be widened or reconfigured to support quicker flow of traffic (eg. Area around Lidl and Subway)? Along […]

More bins for Wellholme Park, including in the woods by the bmx track, to keep the park cleaner and allow recycling e.g plastic bottles. Bins with ‘lids’ to keep birds and squirrels out to stop them littering. Regular cleaning of streets of rubbish

Have more housing available so young families can afford to live here and work in Leeds or Manchester!

Bulldoze the entire town and start from scratch, probably for the best

Look at ways to reduce the amount of traffic going directly through the centre of brighouse (by Sainsbury’s and over the canal) such as redirecting or expanding roads around the town centre.

This needs looking into. Now that Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd have protection, it puts Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge more at risk.

The bus services in Brighouse ( particularly in Rastrick) have been reduced since Christmas leaving commuters having to do lengthy bus journey, quite often having to catch a connection, and having to leave the house much earlier than previously. Additional services and better connection would encourage people to use public transport more and reduce traffic […]

All I see is pot holes, everywhere! Rastrick common is typically bad.

This has been mentioned time and time again. The road is dangerous and people do not drive at 30mph. Speed vans have been but this does not do anything. People have died and there are four schools surrounding the area. This needs to be sorted, to stop accidents and deaths in the area.

Invest in better flood defences to protect the businesses. Especially Rokt the climbing gym which is a such an amazing space in our town for bringing community together.

Up to date play areas around brighouse parks to increase community people to interact get the brighouse spirit back

More options for recycling in town centre like for plastic bottles etc.

More WiFi hotspots or free WiFi throughout the town. Would increase visitors

Traffic light control and update to markings on the roundabout! So many accidents and people using the wrong lanes!

Somewhere that’s half decent to shop. Brighouse is full of charity shops, vape shops, pubs and banks. There is limited decent shops. Maybe if rent was lowered there would be more of these.

Bigger ambulance station to serve the community that is growing

Remove kerbs and dreadful pavements, have one demarcated lane for traffic on major streets to free up pedestrian space & parking near to shops (diagonal bays). HALIFAX & Hebden Bridge have similar centres, making them more attractive & accessible to pedestrians, disabled and motorists. A long term benefit for the high street and the town. […]

The congestion, danger and layout of the road area/roundabout near Tesco through the town towards Huddersfield needs to be significantly improved to aid traffic flow

I would like to see an improvement to the playgrounds and outdoor play areas around Broghouse, with the exception of welholm park very few playgrounds have had attention and are quite worn.

Lots of empty businesses due to price, support people to occupy rather than leave empty, improve buildings and public transport.

Brighouse is ideally placed for access to all parts of the country, but the current trend for building houses everywhere is putting pressure on an already stretched infastructure. A better rail service with appropriate parking facilities would encourage people to leave their cars at home (or in town) and use public transport. Currently, to go […]

Turn commercial street into a public pathway, no car access. This would stop traffic and encourage foot flow. Could offer market style stalls on the street .

It is the most dismal, dreary place! It gets next to no sunshine but it could become a busy gathering place if it had a large airy roof – [mini version of Trinity in Leeds??] and we could have all sorts of events under it, including a nicer market. Reduce the number of ugly fixed […]

Poorly thought out town planning decisions have left the town with very poor traffic through flow. The town needs a holistic solution to the high volume transient traffic at peak times which combined with the poorly planned road infrastructure and the short sited approval of supermarkets causes traffic to back up into junctions daily.

Market area is definatley something that could be improved with maybe local providers of street food introduced. Summer opening hours to be encouraged to entice people to spend money in the town & create a better connected community. Open up a better connection on the river side pathways to encourage more walkers/groups to visit the […]

Please sort out all of the potholes in the Brighouse area, especially on Birds Royd Lane.

Knock down Wellington arcade. It’s dated, dark and uninviting. Have a square with shops round the edge, a space for the market in the middle and space for the community to meet. People are less likely to shop local as their first choice if their first impression of the town is rough pubs with people […]
