We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Activities for families with young children to get them in the town centre e.g. child friendly café’s with activities (Lego clubs, story days, sing-a-longs) as will […]

Social Economy

Invest in unique ways to bring a more metropolitan nightlife back into the centre; independent bars, craft pubs etc. Revamp the current market place into a food and independent market as with Hull Markets, Barnsley Markets, Halifax Piece Hall, Sheffield’s Cutlery Works, Leeds Trinity Kitchen. Ensure that the town centre has a diverse range of […]

Parking charges & small businesses

There must be a reduction or complete removal of parking charges in Dewsbury. When this was brought in, it contributed to the decline. I myself stopped going into town because of this and went where parking was free instead. This decline in visitors led to small businesses – and even McDonald’s and Marks and Spencer […]

Hub of the community

I remember as a child when Dewsbury was the hub of the community. The market was incredible. A destination for people to come. My mum has told me many times that people used to come on coach trips to visit the market. There’s so much we could do in this area to encourage artisans foods. […]

Better policing, cleaner streets and challenges to those who refuse to observe parking regulations

Cleaner streets. Policing patrols who challenge wreckless driving and poor social behaviour. Challenge those who refuse to observe parking regulations. Less take aways – particularly those who offer the same foods. More community events that includes the elderly. Better pavements. Challenge those who damage grass verges on streets. Promote respect.

Clean it up

Prosecute companies/businesses off loading their rubbish into the river. Take more steps to avoid fly tipping. Find the source of the disgusting smell around the Sainsbury’s retail park area, sort it out! More police in town centre – hopefully this will deter the drug dealers/users.

Free parking

The introduction of free parking in the town centre is critical. Remove half the market that is not covered and replace with car park. Also make all roads one ane use second lane for parking. The cheap market is crippling the town as shops can not compete with low cost of so many market traders. […]

Home & leisure hub

With the housing crisis in Britain being a massive factor, I would say de-commercialise the town, and make it in a to a residential ‘super hub’ with Asda being close by its pretty perfect. Renovate most buildings in to apartments and houses, try and envision the town as a large gated community, with play grounds, […]

Healthy and active dewsbury

I would love to see improved sporting facilities and park space for dewsbury. Investment in open space such as Crow Nest Park, to help bring the community together and hold events. Sporting facilities are very limited, and often over subscribed. This is clearly demonstraing the need for more in dewsbury.

Please help us clean up!

Please install some rubbish bins and help us clean up Dewsbury and keep it clean. Parks and curbsides look like a massive dump, people fly tipping and throwing rubbish from cars straight into our gardens… Also, we need better use of the city centre and all of the empty buildings. We need some places for […]

High value manufacturing

We have to stop being a commuter town that provides employment to Leeds and Sheffield. Dewsbury should create the environment for small scale (thus not multi national companies) high value manufacturing. This will have a cascading impact on demand for other services and suppliers.

refresh

The town needs a whole new refresh, the arcade needs reinventing and more free parking made available. The huge building on the outskirts of town needs to be fully invested in with appealing shops for many visitors to come visit Dewsbury and help support local shops Graffiti and rubbish could be disregarded quicker

Homelessness, drunks, drug users

There are far too many homeless people, drunks and drug abusers in dewsbury town center which makes it appear to be an unsafe place. There have been incidents where a Royal Mail member of staff got stabbed in the hand with a used needle that had been discarded in a post box. Investments need to […]

Town centre

The town centre needs money putting into it. Better parking, cleaner, more coffee shops/cafes. Dewsbury used to be a lovely Yorkshire town but people who live in the area would now much rather go to white rose of trinity walk where there are better facilities and free parking in various places.

More things to do!

As a young women living in Dewsbury I struggle to get out and about to meet new people and to be active all for a low cost. It would be really nice to see the local leisure centre be given funding to put on more classes, activities for kids, have a better pool etc. So […]

Town Centre investment

With Dewsbury being in such a pivotal place for a commuter town, the town centre has been woefully neglected, with beautiful architecture left vacant through a lack of investment and support for businesses in the local area. Incentives and encouragement for businesses to reopen in Dewsbury is critically needed, as without business presence, visual improvement […]

Connectivity

I would like transport and roads to be improved to allow more people to easily commute or plan a day to spend in the town. For this we need better service and attractions in the town. The train station needs better facilities like luggage store and facilities. A cafe for example and connections direct to […]
