Re-think the Dearne Valley Eco Vision

BMBC needs to stop ignoring the Dearne Valley in policy. Sheffield City Regional Strategic Economic Plan highlights Dearne Valley as the location for logistics and warehousing, yet there are many more types of employment opportunities that should be investigated such as those discussed in the Dearne Valley Eco-Vision published in 2009 – and more. (What […]

Get people into work

You could use the spare land near the police station, or knock down the empty pubs, and build something where people can learn real trades such as plumbing, plastering, joinery etc. Help people in the area to get real skills that will improve employment levels in the area and get people off benefits.

Employability & Skills courses

I think we should fund a number of employability schemes for those out of work and who have been stuck on benefits long term. Courses designed to give people confidence, skills and mindset to apply for jobs, attend interviews and prepare to get back or into work. Trades courses from a local dedicated employability centre […]

Smarten up the area

The front street needs improving – too many empty or shabby looking shops/pubs, the area where the primary school was is all overgrown and derelict, and a glance down the side streets it’s boarded up buildings and litter everywhere. The shop-keepers and residents who are trying really hard are outnumbered by the low-lifes who don’t […]

Antisocial behaviour and crimimals

we have had a rise of antisocial behaviour which is increasing year upon year, i believe we require more cctv and investment in the police force so this can be tackled, we have many friends in the area wishing to move out of the area due to anti social behavior and criminals attempting to open […]

wardens

We need more wardens patrolling the area and enforcing the laws someone that does fine people for littering etc. Someone that will walk around the side streets making people take their dustbins in and clear their gardens and take pride in where they live

side streets

I would suggest spending money on the side streets in Goldthorpe fixing the roads and put compulsory purchases on derelict houses and bring them back to standard and put DECENT tenants in them. The money that is allocated to the area should not go to pay someone astronomical wages to do surveys etc .so that […]

tenants

The laws on nuisance housing tenants should be enforced quickly and they should be taken to task on their behaviour and the state they keep their properties in, It should be a quick fix not something that drags on forever and a day.Why should so many streets in Goldthorpe be flooded with awful residents that […]

housing

to ensure that landlords check their properties on a regular basis. there are empty properties but also people obtaining a property to rent and not living there or even sub letting. maybe introduce street cleaners back and maybe employ gardeners to help teach people how to look after a garden. (hands on approach). Let’s work […]

General Area

The area is struggling from an identity and people are playing at trying to make it better… the majority of the residents want it to be a better place it is dragged down by a minority. Connectivity to other areas need to be improved and the HS2 branch line would be great for the area. […]

Clean up the area

Enforcement officers for litter/anti social behaviour. Recreational activities for children/teens so they have somewhere to go and something safe to do. Gangs of youths hanging around and causing trouble are scaring people away from the area. The dilapidated shops need to be smartened up and brought back to life, but retailers would need incentives due […]

Better housing and retail

The balance of housing stock needs to be addressed. There are far too many privately rented HMO’s in Goldthorpe, most in very poor condition and full of rehoused ex-offenders. Also lots of boarded up and derelict properties. Compulsory purchase and demolition of some of the worst streets, and a building programme of larger family housing […]

Improving the future for our children

The derelict pubs (Horse & Groom & Goldthorpe Hotel) need to be demolished, NOT converted to flats for ex-addicts/offenders. The land (and the land where the old primary school stood) needs to be developed. One option would be recreation/green space or a community space where families or youths could go safely. Or what about linking […]

Empty shops

The empty shops are making the village more susceptible to crime and vandalism as there’s no reason for people to be proud or look after the space. Offer incentives for businesses that ARENT more take out places to open up and give the residents something to look after. Also the council properties need to stop […]

Start Vetting Tennants

The village has been let down by BMBC for using Goldthorpe as a dumping ground for moving in Drug addicts and other wastes of space from other areas. The village is on a downward turn, so much so that tenured villagers are now moving out of the area as a result.

Reduce council spending and serbices

As the majority of gold thorpe don’t contribute to society, work or ever pay tax, all funding should be reduced. They vandalise their on parks, graffiti their own buildings, throw litter on the floor, fly tip, let dogs fowl. They commit crimes against their neighbours. In every way they cost more the council more than […]

Empty shops and land

cheap rates for empty shops, allow people to open up independent ones. Build properties on land thats empty. Get long term unemployed people doing litter picks and general tidying. Sort out teenage groups by providing free sports or dance just once a week. Bring back the proudness of young people and the area they live […]

Litter

Lots of places are filled with litter and streets have become dumping grounds for mess being left. Needs something in place for council to address these issues

Tackling littering

Local businesses such as ASDA have a corporate responsibility to help deal with the masses of litter dropped by school kids between the store and Dearne academy. Kids from the academy should be involved in daily litter picks of the route between the school and ASDA. Local residents could be supported to become involved in […]

NSP service

Goldthorpe should have NSP provision offered as a part of the substance misuse services that operate from The Factory. The provision of NSP was opposed by local councillors and successive treatment providers have allowed this to go unchallenged. The area has very poor NSP coverage with the nearest pharmacy exchange operating in thurmscoe. The lack […]

Rubbish

Wheelie bins emptied every week instead of fortnightly. Litter pickers every week.(all streets included not just main roads). Count all surrounding villages as the DEARNE and not divide them as dearne north and dearne south etc. Can we have MPs that actually do some work . Can we have people that work for the council […]

Tidy up Goldthorpe

Owners of Goldthorpe hotel and horse and groom made to tidy up these dilapidated buildings or demolish them. They are an eyesore on the area and make it look even worse to visitors or potential investors. Council to patrol hot spot areas like cooperative street to ensure anti social behaviour, fly tipping etc is controlled.

Cleanliness

I would like the council to employ a team ( maybe 2) to police the area to ensure property’s / streets / roads are kept to a cleanliness/ tidy – the people / landlords who don’t comply within 14 days ( notices served) then cost/ fine to Clear up,attributed to those who don’t comply.

Education and Clean Up

Can some of the money be used to educate ‘locals’ not to allow their dogs to defacate all over the car parks and pavements the area is disgusting for this! Or more cleaning patrols! We are a local family run business who have been in the town for 35 years. The area has deteriorated noticeably. […]

Retail and Support

Investment in local shops and help to start up new restaurants, pubs (like wetherspoons for families), cafes and craft shops. The return of the old cinema should help bring back jobs and bring some money in locally. More GP centres and appointments. Better rail links to Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Doncaster and improved bus services […]

Youth club

A youth club which actually has something interesting for the kids to do, bowling, snooker, bike ramps.. etc. A facility to alow kids to be creative in art and gardening and cooking, not run by volunteers, run by qualified paid youth workers! I really believe this may reduce the antisocial behavior our area.

High street road surface

project youth

An activity/community/ social behaviour center focusing on young people to help address recent rise in violent/antisocial incidents in our community. There is a distinct lack of provision for our young people, they need to feel part of the community and become involved more

Litter

Employ a full time litter picker. The amount of litter is terrible in Goldthorpe, it makes the who place look bad. Encourage businesses to take up the empty retail units on the high street, there’s no requirement for new units to be built until the existing empty and run down buildings are in use.

Dearne Valley Museum

A museum of the Dearne villages local history. Also an education centre, public space for hire and a people library. A people library is where real living people with interesting stories and lives can be “borrowed”. You sit with them for a period of time, perhaps in a bit of the museum made to look […]
