Safe overnight stops for Motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Motorhome stopovers in town

If there were a few spaces in parking areas in town for motorhomes they could come in and spend time exploring the riverside, shops and tourist attractions, and in the evening visit pubs and restaurants. This would bring in extra money. There are thousands more motorhomes now and it’s a booming category of travel, with […]

Car Park levy at the Hardwick

The increasing and seemingly unregulated development of more retail and leisure outlets along Hardwick Road is sucking the life out of the town centre. If every car that uses the free parking at the Hardwick were to pay a £1 or £2 levy it would help equalise the unfair advantage that the retailers there enjoy […]

Massive untapped tourism opportunity

I grew up in King’s Lynn and am now a researcher and practitioner in Shakespeare education. Having worked for a number of high profile national Shakespearean theatre and heritage organisations I can say with some authority The Guildhall is an arts, tourism and heritage goldmine (in both economic, cultural and community senses). Having worked with […]

Consultation please

The town council should take serious note of the proposed management and operational structure put forward by The Shakespeare’s Guildhall Trust. It offers sensible suggestions for a sustainable operation that will not put public funds at risk. I declare my interest as a Trustee member of SGT.

Utilising existing structures

Two buildings that urgently require attention are the old post office and The Arts Centre/St.George’s Guildhall. The post office building has architectural merit, is imposing and overlooks an area proposed for public open space use. Left to deteriorate it will detract from any attempt to upgrade the area. The ground floor could be converted into […]

Shakespeare

What a splendid opportunity to put King’s Lynn on the international map by developing The Guildhall into a unique Shakespearean venue as proposed by the St Georges’ Trustees. Not only would it revitalise an area in town that has so much potential but bring in others of a creative mindset that could offer so much […]

Provide Opportunities for Young People in a revitalised St George’s Guildhall

Much of the burden of the covid is borne by young people. SGT wants to engage with the Council to jointly develop on our 2019 activities for young people: 18 pupils from Springwood’s Swing Band performed on-stage; 265 children attended “Sylvia”, a play about Sylvia Pankhurst; Pupils with complex needs had a guided tour of […]

Allow SGT to develop its vision for the Guildhall in colaboration with the Borough Council

SGT has a network of supporters, volunteers & businesses organised into working groups: Fundraising – can apply to corporate bodies, major funders and local businesses for support but unable to act without council endorsement. Education – professional educationalists creating links with local schools, colleges etc for visits, workshops, performances, work placements and curriculum work. Research […]

St George’s Guildhall

I would like to see the Borough Council engage in a meaningful, open and honest dialogue with Shakespeare’s Guildhall Trust and support their vision for the Guildhall. SGT’s vision is for the restoration and development of St George’s Guildhall – Britain’s oldest working theatre and the only theatre in the world that can claim Shakespeare […]

Faster Internet Access

Kings Lynn lags badly in internet infrastructure to homes and businesses. With home working on the rise it makes it less and less important where people live to do their jobs. A turn off for kings Lynn is the terrible reliability of internet services to homes and businesses and lack of high speed services. The […]

Tuesday Market Place

Remove car parking In the Tuesday Market Place to enable better use of one of the town’s finest features. The beautiful heritage buildings would provide an ideal setting for events and outdoor cafe culture, as seen in so many continental towns. Outdoor seating is far more attractive in these Covid-19 times.

OLD wine, NEW bottles…

1. Invest in a public/private partnership for a slimmed down Ferry Service to West Lynn = reduces traffic and parking…helps families…promote views of KLynn from across the river etc (roots to back to 1285). 2. Reopen the iconic Customs House…..my friends in the Midlands still expect the TICentre to be there and Not locked! 3. […]

Arts Centre

It was a huge disappointment to the people of King’s Lynn when the Arts Centre closed. A permanent and flexible arts/community space which can also be used by the excellent arts organisations in the town (like the King’s Lynn Festival) would be warmly welcomed. With the outbreak of the Corona Virus, the arts have, once […]

Cleaner shopping centre with shelter from the elements

Some people have suggested a full indoor shopping centre. However, just having some shelter would be a massive improvement. It doesn’t need to be completely indoors but providing some protection from the elements would enable the shopping centre to be used in poor weather (think the bus station shelter/gentleman’s walk in Norwich/Norwich market). Also seating/rest […]

Cycle facilities for kids

Use some land that can’t be built on for cycle facilities. A pump track is a decent, low maintenance feature along with maybe a little skate park set up with a couple of table top jumps and a couple of drop offs upto 18-24inches or so that can be rolled over to make it safe […]

Develop Tourism

Why not have an interactive tourist experience along the lines of the Jorvik Centre in York? King’s Lynn is so rich in history and yet so little is made of it. What is there to attract visitors? We could investigate family ganseys and market them in a similar way to Scottish tartans. So much could […]

Upgrade or build another pool

The swimming pool in Lynn is really dated and has poor viewing areas and facilities. It would be fantastic to see this modernised or built in a different place such as Lynn Sport or the outskirts of town with more parking. Like all sport if you want to encourage more people you need quality facilities.

Indoor Activity Centre for Children

I have put together a 5-year business plan for an indoor activity centre in King’s Lynn mainly aimed at 4-16 year olds. The centre will give children and their parents a new physical activity to do in a safe and all-weather environment. For the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk economy, the concept will provide activity […]

The growth of Kings Lynn

The King’s Lynn town is growing bigger and bigger. Yet our government is not building new schools and new hospital, new dental surgeries and GPs. Instead they are demolishing schools to build houses, and putting all the kids in one school. Build new schools, expand our hospital, rebuild kids playgrounds

Improve the Infrastructure

Park and Ride

Park and Ride

Park and ride

Create a park and ride system for the hospital so it doesn’t take so long to find a parking space. Subsequently, more spaces at the hospital could be designated for disabled parking. This would also improve the efficiency of the hospital because less people will be late for appointments due to looking for a parking […]

Improved accessibility

Improved accessibility in existing facilities. Adding a changing places toilet would make the town more accessible to both residents and visitors with access needs. Increased awareness of disability in retail and services.

Aquapark

King’s Lynn have only small swimming pool. It would be great to have indoor and outside aquapark with few pools and slides, beach or even an diving pool. It would attract more people in any age to more active life and it could engage some local cafes and restaurant into better businesses.

Roads, shopping, parks

More community led spaces.

Town Centre investment

If a full shopping centre/mall cannot be afforded then an arcade or covered areas would be good. I agree that areas to play would be a good idea. In some town/city centres they have water jet fountains embedded into the pavement which are only activated at certain times of the year/day. This can provide a […]

Attractions to draw in tourism

Tourism provides economic stability for destinations by bringing in investment, jobs and other financial opportunities. King’s Lynn along with the surrounding area needs to improve its attractions for tourists e.g. museums, entertainment facilities (cinemas, arcades), cultural attractions (corn exchange) along with other attractions. These need to be managed and marketed better to keep King’s Lynn […]

Transport

It would be hugely beneficial to have better transport networks around the town.
