Safe overnight stops for Motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Lower business rates/parking fees in city centre to encourage small, independent businesses to thrive

By lowering business rates & parking fees in the city centre, it will really help small, independent businesses thrive, especially creative ones – arts/crafts, ceramics, fashion, dance and music. Such businesses need support to prosper alongside growing online businesses, which dominate the market. Currently the only businesses to survive are Charity/Pound shops and Pubs. A […]

Public transport

We need more busses and more running times. I have to be in places far earlier than Newcastle busses run and get home long after they have stopped and believe it or not I still have to go to work on a Sunday but there are 0 busses running

Unaffordable

Local government to invest in business with affordable shops and garage/workshops. I can’t even find a workspace in my area that is affordable, they are more expensive than my house rent.

Public Transport

The public transport in North Staffordshire is wretchedly poor. Bus services have been removed or merged, most services end early evening. The services that remain are generally under used because folk cannot rely on them and fear being stranded or services have been merged and take such an elongated route that to travel even a […]

Student housing

We have shops in are town with empty space above the shops this should be turned into student accommodation this would help with more people coming into the town instead living outside the town going to university.

Bring Life back to the town

1. Reduce business rates to encourage new and support existing businesses, more occupied shops paying less is better economic sense than one or two paying a lot. 2. Deal with the beggars and homelessness ( a lot are not genuine) as these deter visitors to the town. 3. Reduce/remove car parking fees to encourage visitors. […]

Re-Zoning hybrid residential

Any new buildings, sale of existing property, or substantial renovation of existing property should require mixed use, where ground floor is retail/leisure and upper floors are residential. With minimum standards there could be hundreds of good quality dwellings in the town centre which will encourage and sustain a ‘cafe culture’ and more varied eateries. Locals […]

Buses and shops

Let’s have buses that run later than 6pm so that people can 1. Get home from work and 2. Enjoy the town at night. Also, encourage more small business, shops in particular, into the town.

Designated Dog Park

A large, secure area, to allow people to let their dogs off-lead to train and run around. Entrance should be via an annual Council permit, to be displayed, and a lock. Plus a sanded area for toilet training, and bin facilities. The permits would allow for easy identification of people who don’t clear up after […]

Links

Newcastle-under-Lyme has history, with things like the circus etc and has an incredibly creative and innovative theatre in the New Vic. The town should be doing more with places like to Vic to draw people in and utilise the skills of the theatre. Get people excited about coming here.

Town centre

Bring the rents and rates down for the shops in the centre, crippled by high charges hence the reason so many shops are closing. It used to be a thriving market town and there’s nothing now… Quite sad really…

Marker

Money needs to be invested in advertisement for our towns market, the advertisement eeds to reach beyond just events being posted a week before on facebook. Also to entice people in to our ‘market town’ the market needs to build trade before stall holders are willing to pay for their place, maybe a lower or […]

Free parking

Free parking will get people into the town. If you don’t people will go elsewhere. There’s nothing to go there for anymore. No decent shops.

Give us a hub!

The town is lovely…..don’t let it become derelict 😫😫😫 We have housing for the elderly newly provided…..fantastic! New student accommodation being built….wonderful! What do we all ‘do’ now? Stop the ‘out of town’ drive to a retail park mentality and give us a centre we want to walk to….bring us together 😊

More shops

People say we use the Internet for our Shopping well if Newcastle had Shops we wouldn’t need to use internet. My Son is 21 he doesn’t wear Sportswear so apart from 2 Sportswear shops not many places to get Mens Clothes from. Also my Husband. My Daughter is 15 she has a few Shops she […]

Invest in the landfill site in some way as the smell in Sumner, and even in winter sometimes, is horrific! It smells like we’re living in a sewer!

Relocation of Government.

To help to kickstart redevelopment and energise the town centre i would look at relocation a government department in part or whole to Newcastle-under-lyme and Base its offices in the town centre. This influx of civil servants would help to energise the local business.

Greening the urban environment

Make Newcastle-under-Lyme a place people want to come from far afield to visit by combining more cultural attractions with planting lots of vegetation in and around the town whilst also encouraging wildlife in with flowers and plants that offer a food stuff to animals and birds. Create something new and fresh; thinking of the innovation […]

Bring back the glory days !

Cycle lanes

Cycle lanes on the a34 road leading to university hospital north Midlands from Newcastle centre. Because the a34 is so busy it would be good to have a designated bike lane on the road, as a cyclist myself I don’t always feel safe on that road. Installing a cycle lane would make cyclist feel safer.

Parking

That the area has free parking or at least somewhere to park, putting more money in to the area, bringing the rates down and letting young entrepreneurs bring money back in to the area

Education

More money needs to be put into education in the area mostly designated for classroom supplies such as textbooks and updated equipment even glue as their is a lack of money for these items.

Centre ReGeneration

Newcastle-under-Lyme is one of the oldest market towns in the country but in the last decade has become less vibrant and utilised by the local community. High parking charges and expensive commercial rates put off the public and commerce alike. A forward thinking approach and investment is required which should include facilities for all young […]

Free car parking & better shops

Encourage better shops into the town by offering free parking to increase the footfall of shoppers into the town. The town has plenty of empty shops, charity shops, cheap shops & pubs giving the impression of a deprived area. High rates of the town has discouraged small independent shops & large stores alike

Free Parking

Council car parks become free for all to park in after 3pm every weekday and free on a Saturday and Sunday. The loss of earnings would be minimal and would be an incentive for people to come into the town for shopping.

Themed town centre

As a unique selling point for Newcastle-under-Lyme we need a town centre theme. Most appropraite is to play on the Philip Astley link and would suggest “Circus and Entertainment”.

Better public transport

Walking and disabled access (wheelchair space for all sizes, autism friendly, do not rely on colourcodes as someone people cant see colour, need to be more spefific). Cycling paths well lit. Buses more frequent, cheaper or passes to save money, more routes to rural areas and into Stoke on trent to stop over-relieance on cars.

Re-vamp Newcastle

Newcastle town needs a re vamp. Been a business owner myself I find clients tend to go to other areas because they can not find what they need in Newcastle. A new shopping complex (Primark or tkmaxx) on the old Sainsbury’s site with restaurants (Tgi’s, Nando’s etc like at Hanley) would bring more people to […]

Make the town centre more attractive

Trees across the roads, paths in town centre, try to make alternative entries into town other than the subways it’s intimidating particularly for women. Regeneration of the town centre and creating opportunities for new, local businesses

Incentivise the opening of new, local businesses in the town centre. A potential incentive could be a contribution towards the refurbishment of their selected lot. Regeneration of town centre

We need to get people to come back to our lovely historic town. We need to get businesses back into the town. Too many empty shops and space not being used to it’s best ability. We need cheap parking and parking back in the town. Less pedestrianised areas. I think it could be made into […]

Refurbishment and themed markets

Newcastle has always been a pretty town, but in recent years it’s beginning to look shabby, suggest money is used to bring it back to what it once was. Also encourage more themed outdoor markets to give a reason for shoppers to visit. A good start has been made but could always be improved on.

Improve traffic congestion

The traffic in the area from Whitmore Road through Northwood lane and Clayton Road to the town centre become extremely congested during peak periods. This can partially be attributed to the M6 junction 15 and the A500 and also the traffic light system in place at the Gatehouse crossroads. Another major traffic congested area is […]

Failed construction sites

To put funding into sorting out construction plans that have begun but then failed due to companies going bankrupt. They make the area look untidy, for example the old jubilee site. It’s a project that will likely never be complete, and the space could be used for something else.

Basic improvements

Since the drug and alcohol rehabilitation service closed and police numbers have been reduced our town is unrecognisable. Initiatives to tackle homelessness and youth services. At the moment walking through the town day/night can feel very unsafe due to the amount of drug taking going on and teenagers hanging around. Free parking

People are put off by visiting the town, due to parking charges. All the surrounding retail parks have free parking, which means people will obviously prefer to go there for there, due to the convenience and cost. Town Centre

1) I have found cost of transport an expensive burden whilst living in Newcastle. It would be widely appreciated if there were more student deals – to give an example, 24 hour tickets, 2 day tickets, 3 days tickets, 4 day tickets, 7 day tickets – at a lower price if possible. Students rely on […]
