Safe overnight stops for Motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Free Parking

The first and most valuable incentive Rotherham Council could introduce to encourage people back into the town centre would be free parking. Trying to support our independent shops is a struggle when you have to park miles away and if you do park up to run into somewhere for a quick lunch then you’ve got […]

Rotherham Town Centre

Rotherham Town centre is crying out for a shopping centre, similar to the French gate in Doncaster and Alhambra in Barnsley town centre, somewhere safe, dry and attractive to bring people into our town centre. We don’t need more housing development spend some money and bring back a once thriving town centre where adults, children […]

Street drinking

Street drinking takes over the town nobody feels safe going in. Free parking and more police presence, lower rent for more businesses to come back into the town centre not parkgate.

Parkgate to the town centre

The walking route between Parkgate and the town centre is very narrow, not very nice and does not encourage anyone actually walking or cycling between the two. Why not make the route more attractive and user friendly to encourage people to shop not only at Parkgate but also in the town.

Refusal of licenses

To improve the night time economy in Rotherham, the Council should reduce the trading hours of pubs in outlying villages, specifically Wickersley to encourage drinkers back in the town centre.

CPO Eastwood

Eastwood is the epicentre of Crime in Rotherham and an eye sore which is on one of the main gateways into town. It takes a disproportionate amount of Police resources compared to other areas if the town. I advise Rmbc to CPO Eastwood and flatten the area and relook at providing a suite of Council […]

Community

I think there are so many great suggestions on here already. What needs to happen is for RMBC to actually remember that they are public servants and to listen to their people. The high street funds needs needs investment in to low rates that are higher than Sheffield, supporting businesses models, utilising empty buildings more […]

Some common sense with transport planning

The road infrastructure surrounding Rotherham’s town centre is incredibly badly designed (years and years of ineptitude and incompetence from RMBC planners regrettably). If our town centre businesses are to survive, they need to be provided with a level playing field. This means making the town centre more accessible, resolving stupid decisions made in the past […]

Education Education Education!

Put a state-of-the-art school right in the middle of the town centre and furnish it with brilliant leisure facilities that can be used day and night by students and the community. Let’s make a name for the town as a leading centre of technical education and turn it into a place that young people want […]

Help small independent retailers

I believe the days Rotherham competing to keep large retail stores has ended with the enhanced Parkgate shopping a stones throw away and Meadowhall around the corner. Rotherham now needs to be the leader in small independent retailers, shops you can’t get at Meadowhall and Rotherham and shops which people will want to return. Rotherham […]

FREE PARKING

The only way our centre can really compete is by levelling the playing field and not charging people for the privilege of looking round. Most major retailers who closed in Rotherham mentioned parking charges as one of the reasons and most friends I talk to who don’t visit town say why should they pay to […]

Part time pedestrianisation

That the town centre be opened to traffic in the evening. There are many areas that seem desolate, threatening and unwelcoming after the shops have closed. By opening the centre up to traffic in the evening and overnight, you could lessen anti-social behaviour and open the town up to more nightlife (restaurants for example)

Flood alleviation

Instead of focusing on the town centre, which few residents across Rotherham access, why not address some of the wider issues such a flood alleviation. The impact of the floods effected many residents and not just a few, adding funds to solution would be a great idea!

Culture Over Business

Walking through town daily for the past 3 years it is clear that Rotherham has become a business and cultural wasteland full of closed and disused buildings. The collage building west of Howard Street, the former Primark and Burger King are just a few examples of many, usually with several floors that are just as […]

EV charging points

Options worth visiting

Primark of recent years was the only pull from any other trading unit nearby. Visual improvements

The town center requires an uplift in lighting, CCTV, shop fronts, people need to feel safe when in the town. Masbrough Station

Re-open the old Masbrough Railway Station. Convert the old Bus Depot adjacent to it into a Park and Ride and build a footbridge from that directly to the station platforms. Shopping centre

Rotherham centre needs a shopping centre like Doncaster. Library should be moved into the town hall. Put a roof over the city centre. This would encourage more use of the pedestrian areas and encourage shops (restaurants) to expand into the street and create a more Italian square feel. Care should also be take to ensure the roof doesn’t create a wind tunnel

Spend it Where it’s Needed

Don’t just spend the money on the town centre, spread it across the more residential areas in Rotherham where people are actually going to notice the difference and benefit from it.
