Clean up our area

Please work with Incommunities to clean up Incommunities land. Their land is constantly covered with rubbish and fly tipping. Residents are not reprimanded for leaving their rubbish all over the ground in communal bin areas, and they are not reprimanded. Grassed and shared areas are filthy. The council do not get involved as it is […]

Toilets and shops!

We definitely need toilets back in the centre. I would like to see the market building, especially the clock tower improved, and the old Arndale Centre too. Give some incentives to retailers for the empty units and have some events that bring people into town. Not just overpriced markets!

Recreation facilities

Communal exercise is good therapy for people trying to fight depression. Towards this effect, the Shipley public swimming pool and gym needs an upgrade. At present the opening times cater to people that don’t work. This does not suit people that work full time, many of which live in Shipley and Saltaire. In Australia, gyms […]

Parking

Free parking would help local businesses and allow local people to use get the best out of the town centre.

Investment in the town centre

There needs to be investment in the town centre. As others have said the markets need investment. Also adding some greenery will improve the look and air quality of the area. Consider reduced rates for small and independent businesses. This would attract places to eat and drink. The town square is a great spot for […]

Public toilets

When I moved to Shipley, the public toilets were already closed, meaning people have to go to Asda or the pub. I really think we need public toilets in the town as not everyone can ‘dash’ up to the supermarket

Start again with the square

I start from the premis that a smaller selection of vibrant shops and stall would be better than a rundown larger grouping. Replace half the current sq with grass/garden/benches. The rest create a space which can be used for different events inc markets , flea markets and community events so that would inc access to […]

Cycle routes

I would like to see double lane cycle routes (as in other areas of Bradford) introduced along the routes to the high schools local children attend namely: Salts, Beckfoot, Dixon’s and Bingley Grammar. My children already cycle to Beckfoot however they often tell stories of near misses with buses and cars. In an age where […]

Attractions

We need a reason to visit e.g. cinema, paddling pool in the park and desperately need some greenery in the centre and the pigeons to go. More easily accessible parking also needed.

Improving the water canal side

I often walk on the canal to and on my way back from work and walk past many others who do the same, however there is no lighting along the canal path, making it a bit dangerous early in the morning or after dark. There is also no seating, having benches would be a great […]

Shipley Owned Wind Power

Why not hook-up with someone like Ecotricity to build some electricity generating windmills on some local land and generate some mega cheap electricity for Shipley folks? We could all join up and the surplus electricity could be sold off and we could use the money for more local improvements (maybe a Shipley Not for Profit […]

Upgrades

The old run down stores in shipley need a big upgrade. There needs to be a better variety of stores that will help the local economy, most people won’t travel to Bradford. Due to it being, well…. Bradford. Which means most will go to Leeds. Leaving a large gap in the local economy that could […]

Friendly staff

First a positive observation – I have found staff in shops and cafes to be particularly friendly and helpful in Shipley. Feels like a step back in time in a good way. I love the sense of community in Shipley. On the downside, when I visit Shipley it is usually on Saturday mornings. Last time […]

Market

People need to start using both markets, indoor and outdoor, otherwise we will lose them! The indoor market has a fantastic haberdashery stall. The outdoor market on a Monday has second hand stuff – I’ve found some real treasures. The fruit and veg stalls on Friday and Saturday, plant stalls and ‘proper’ farm eggs are […]

Support local community centres

Money needs to be put into the local community centres that have had their funding cut and are only open due to volunteers, the centres are a hub within the community offering a safe place for the elderly and young to go to and if they close due to no funding coming in then there […]

Homeless or hungry…

Support for people with mental health issues and homeless or hungry… There’s more to these issues than the obvious… Youth workers are needed to help and people with experience of working with those whose lifestyle is dysfunctional… Roy Williams…
