Transportation

An enhanced transport network (electric trams such as Manchester?) connecting Old Town, Town Centre, Outlet Village, Station etc. This would reduce pollution (particularly on Kingshill and Victoria Road!) and give a reliable service to increase travel and tourism.

Cultural and Educational Investment

With the recent exciting heritage action plan I propose we continue to support the cultural and educational communities and plans in Swindon. Beginning with investment into the current museums, the museum of computing and the Old Town museum are severely under advertised leaving many people who live in Swindon with little to do. I suggest […]

New indoor shopping centre like Westgate Oxford and Cabot Circus in Bristol

Completely overhaul the shopping in the town centre, by making it into an enclosed shopping centre like Westgate. Fill it with pubs/bars and cool restaurants and popular shops. Don’t fill it with useless shops and restaurants, no one uses the new restaurants you installed upstairs in the Brunel centre. I’m 21 and I know all […]

Cover the City Centre

Put a roof over the public shopping area, the city centre has been largely pedestrianised but what could take us a step further would be to have a roof over the pedestrian area so that we can have more outdoor dining like in the Squares in Italy. There would also need to design the roof […]

Rejuvenate our town centre

Our town centre is a bit of a ghost town with shops closing down and a lack of variety. It would be great to see a good mix of residential and evening activities as well as independent and chain shops. Ghost Town

Bring back the canal to the town and make the town centre more of a place to be like lechlade with a few nice restaurants/bars. Make it the face of Swindon as you get off of the train rather than the mess that is the town centre now!

The current cold, grey, uninviting space that is the town centre is driving people away. There are good out of town shopping facilities but the heart of the town is dying and needs investment.
