Safe overnight stops for Motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Make motorhomes welcome

Why don’t we make motorhome visitors welcome by providing designated overnight parking for them where they can easily get into town and visit our great industrial heritage. And provide a motorhome service point. There are more than 350000 in UK and 2 million in Europe. Many are retired and travel all year, they have the […]

Regenerate Wellington town centre

Wellington is a historic market town and it has been badly neglected for over fifty years and is presently in a real mess with no facilities (museum/art gallery/visitors centre etc), lots of empty shops and a lot of anti-social behaviour. A significant amount of this £25 million funding should go to the town to buy […]

Culture and Heritage

Telford is desperately short of any cultural and heritage sites (apart from the Ironbridge museum). There are no art galleries, no proper theatre, no museums celebrating its mining, brewing, railway history, canals and agricultural history – the town is depressing lacking in culture! This key funding should be used to fund some new museums and […]

Improve the tourism infrastructure

The Telford and Wrekin area does NOT promote tourism well – very few facilities for tourism outside Ironbridge and the area needs a ‘Wrekin Visitors centre’ and some tourist information facilities in the north of Telford ie: the Wellington area at the railway station or in the town centre. it also needs to develop some […]

Ask the people

There are a few good ideas in the list (public tranport enhancements, cultural facilities and market town regeneration) , but the key issue for me is that the ‘community’ should make the decision rather than the ‘Councils’ who will only waste the money on more housing/more roundabouts/more Southwater/etc. So the panel should choose around 10 […]

Invest in Wellington

Wellington has a lot of empty and unused retail and office buildings within the ring road and especially within the pedestrianised area. Direct investment by T&W is needed there is clearly a market failure to bring these properties back into use. 1st and 2nd floor offices should be converted to flats as a way of […]

Wellington

Would love to see a “green space” that was environmentally friendly and community led – we have many fantastic community groups in Wellington and this is clearly an indication that people care about where they live. The site of the old Dun Elm building would provide a scenic view as people drove past and if […]

Clifton cinema in Wellington

This 1937 art deco old cinema building in Wellington should be redeveloped as a community facility as has happened in other towns. In Macclesfield the old Picturedrome cinema building has been redevloped very sympathetically into a fantastic foodhall attracting lots of visitors and helping the overall regeneration of Macclesfield – its a brilliant place to […]

public transport improvements

public transport is very inadequate around Telford – the bus don’t connect the key hubs. we need better bus services and new routes, as at the present its impossible to get from Wellington to Ironbridge, Bridgnorth or Newport by a direct bus. the bus station at Wellington is hopeless with timetables out of date and […]

The Ironbridge Railway

Part of the £25 million should be spent on reopening the rail line (which is intact so it should not be too hard to do) from Ironbridge to Madeley Jnt then onto Telford Central and finally terminating in the empty bay platform at Wellington station. This would boost the tourist economy throughout the Wrekin area […]

Reopen local rail lines to boost connectivity

In the Telford area, public transport is very poor therefore investment is needed in improving links. There are two potential rail reopenings which would boost the economy, support regeneration and connectivity. They are reopening the rail line between Ironbridge-Telford-Wellington (this would support the tourism economy/support the green agenda by keeping cars out of the narrow […]

Wellbeing- All Ages

Classes and Gatherings need to be put on to promote health and well-being for all ages. For example Yoga or Aerobic activities the park. We also have to consider the older generation may not be able to do these activities so we need to be able to reach out to them too. A book club […]

A safe place for all

When I wasn’t younger, we had the option of going to a youth club, this included getting together and meeting people in my age group and learning new skills and going on trips to outdoor adventure centres providing we were well behaved within our community. This kept so many young people out of trouble, and […]

Youth centres/clubs

I think Telford would benefit hugely from youth centres, where young people can attend for free and have access to safe environments that they sadly might not have at home. There are no longer safe places for young people (particularly from lower income families) to attend, socialise and not be at risk of exploitation from […]

Baseball diamond

I would like to suggest the building of a baseball diamond. With a fledgling club due to be taking part in the West Midlands league for the first time it would be great to have funding for a proper home for the sport.

Climate emergency

Telford has declared a climate emergency. So lets see action to follow that. Improving the bike path/lane infrastructure. Invest in jobs in green energy sector, in waste management, in flood prevention, in electric vehicle charging points. Encourage buses and public use vehicles to be electric.

Callisthenics parks

Outdoor exercise parks for callisthenics workouts for teenagers and adults like pull up bars, monkey bars and parallel bars. Would be a lot better and more useful than the existing parks that just mimic gym equipment

Road and pavement

The roads and pavements in Bookstore Telford are unsafe. To make matters worse parking spaces are in short supply as the estate was built when fewer people owned them. This has caused friction between neighbours. This area has been neglected for years Unlike Woodside that has had serious investment to improve parking roads and footpaths.

Youth clubs/ playcentres

Keep the children and teenagers engaged and off the streets or in their bedrooms using online technology being socially isolated. Good old fashioned playcentres and youth clubs with educational, fitness and recreational activities to keep this group of people socially active. Also be accessible to those on lower budgets (free or small donation) with the […]

Telford and Wrekin Towns & Communities

Southwater is great and brings people into Telford,.. love it!! Now I think it’s time to invest in the towns and communities in the Telford & Wrekin area. For example: supporting the local retailers, coffee shops, etc. which in turn supports the local community. Local skate parks, clubs (or alike) for the younger generation. There […]

Better non-car based transport links

Improvement of pavements and dedicated cycle paths-for a town that was designed, it is worrying how many roads don’t have pavements or even have ones that end in the middle of nowhere. Invest in marketing the area to tourists

Telford has much to offer – Ironbridge museums, Maws craft centre, independent shops, steam railway, zoos/animal parks, Town Park, Wonderland, not to mention independent restaurants and beautiful hotels. We need to support small and independent businesses by attracting more visitors. Out of home advertising – e.g billboards, train stations, digital and print media, TV and […]

St Georges Community Action

Funding for The Gower regeneration instead of the parish council taking out a loan that will cost 300k with residents footing the bill through council tax. Homelessness and NHS

Water park

Convert one of the many unused and unsightly industrial sights into a huge fun water park with multiple pools, slides, surf machine, lazy river, jacuzzi, etc. As the population rises with all the new homes, there has been no increase in things for people to do in Telford, especially indoors. The nearest water park is […]

Promote walking and spending time in the beautiful areas of our town

There is now considerable evidence that walking and being outside in green and open spaces is very good for our physical and emotional well-being. Some of the money could be spent in promoting these activities through community hubs, libraries GP surgeries etc. Telford has some fantastic areas to walk including the Town Park, The Wrekin […]

Reinstate the canal

Reinstate the canal through Newport and into Telford. It would draw in visitors and tourists from all over the country. The visitors will spend money locally and boost the local economy. Also a canal will make Telford a more attractive place and that will encourage new businesses to move here.

More landscape

It seems if there is a panic to build houses wherever there is a bit of greenery at the moment. Nature Reserve

Areas of wasteland leftover from industrial mining (Cockshut, Granville, Albion) should have some investment to help wildlife, clear some of the waste and plant native trees, plants & wild meadows. Add fences and gates to discourage motorbikes and fly-tippers and invest in more urban habitat.

Community Allotment Ketley

Ketley has acres of wasteland that could be put to better use growing fruit & veg and encouraging more wildlife to the area. Some areas of Telford now have small allotments but people of Ketley and the surrounding areas do not. We need an urban oasis for the community and wildlife.

Focal Points

As a collection of ‘new villages’. I think Telford needs a better and more attractive focal point.
