Safe overnight stops for Motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Motorhome Aires/Parking

There are over 350,000 Motorhomes in the UK, throughout Europe there is a network of overnight parking and waste disposal points known as “Aires” but the UK as yet to tap into this revenue stream. By providing overnight parking local businesses can benefit from year round tourism. Recent surveys show when staying owners spend £47 […]

Make motorhomes welcome

I love Cornwall in general and Truro in particular. However I don’t visit anymore because you are extremely unwelcoming to motorhomes. We travel all year round and love visiting places out of season, but instead of welcoming motorhome tourists and the money they bring (and yes, they do spend money in local pubs, shops, restaurants […]

Motorhome parking

Create European style Aires for motorhome parking with water, and waste dusposal facilities. Camp sites not always suitable for Motorhomes who are willing to pay a fee but not the extortionate fees of campsites with some facilities that Motorhomes don’t need, and many campsites insist on a minimum of 3 days. Many Motorhomes are transient […]

Mobility

How about a guide for areas accessible to people with mobility issues, wheelchairs, scooters etc. I know the paths in Boscawen park are accessible, but there is no mention of this on any websites including Cornwall council and yours. I have searched for 2 days for information in cornwall but most of the sites are […]

River marina

Revitalise the river with a marina, continental-style quay areas, with cafés, bars and restaurants, a tidal control system to ensure water is ever present – instead of the unsightly and smelly mud at low tide – and better links between the city and its river. In the 20 years since this plan was last mooted, […]

Soul & opportunity

Totally agree with a lot of the suggestions already. Truro is a city and it needs to act like one, you still need the big brands, shows, bands and creative arts, why does everything stop at Plymouth. Cornwall has the creative dynamic young talent USE THEM! Look at Sydney darling harbour -use the waterfront , connect […]

Comments on the suggestions

I commented myself on various points regarding Truro’s future. I read with interest others comments and responded in the comment area of their suggestions and posted. However on looking to see if others had commented on these suggestions, the items all said that NO COMMENTS were there. If this is so what is the point […]

Do something about the traffic

Radical upheaval of the traffic through Truro is essential before anything else is considered. The junction between Fairmantle St and Lemon St is an accident waiting to happen, and a nightmare/deathtrap for pedestrians and residents. Pavement is too narrow for safety, and with the road being too narrow to take 2 lanes of traffic, cars […]

Lemon quay

Plant lots of established tress. Add lights for summer evenings. Add greenery and lots of seating. Eateries bars . Socialising. Live music . Put some life into the place. Its rundown and grey. Not what you would expect from Cornwalls capital

Piazza

Make better use of the Piazza, free entertainment in the evening, showcase local talent. It’s such a wasted space.

Lemon Quay

Do something with the horrible dirty and depressing area that is Lemon Quay. It needs some decent seating areas, outside cafes, some greenery. So much could be done to make it more welcoming for residents and visitors. To do that you would need to address the problem of the gulls.

Changing places toilet

1 in 260 people in the UK can’t use a standard disabled toilet. A hoist is needed and larger changing bench. Whatever you do – and there have been some great suggestions – at least one of these must be included so that everyone can enjoy our city.

Regenerate Lemon Quay

Regeneration of Lemon Quay to put it to use as a social hub to include Cafes bars and restaurants with covered seating along the plaza. Remove the traffic system that crosses the quay. Move the Job center and replace with a hotel/restaurant complex. This would be support by the development of Hall for Cornwall. The […]

Town centre improvements

Truro has no affordable big chain hotel/lodge in the centre. Would also benefit from a largely undercover shopping area given its one of the wettest citys in England.. This would give the town centre a new lease of life.

Convert the retail desert into homes

Funding for owners and tenants of vacant retail and other premises in the city centre, to enable them to convert their empty properties for alternative use; especially to create good quality homes that are GENUINELY affordable for local families, particularly those whose earnings are at or barely above the minimum wage. Cornwall has a disproportionate […]

Bring back the Piazza

Having looked at a photo of when the Piazza was created it is obvious that it has been totally neglected ever since. It is filthy and needs a really deep ground clean to bring it back to its original look and colour. It needs far more greenery and a revamp of the seating. It was […]

Padel Tennis Courts

Invest in building several courts e.g. 4 courts with the aim of encouraging people to increase physical activity. This is a fast-growing sport in other countries (e.g. Spain). It is much easier for anyone to just pick up a racquet and be able to play without much instruction. It does not require a large team, […]

General Ideas From A Young Local

1. The views of many people is that the Council will use at least a portion of this money to increase their wages and only really enact projects to make themselves look better – be aware of that 2. Don’t build any more houses/estates/industrial estates immediately in Truro, so many people end up crippled because […]

Pedestrianisation

Can we stop using Boscawen Street, and Lower Lemon Street ( from the toilets) for road vehicles & let pedestrians shop without fear in the Main Street. There are not enough safe crossing places & the £500,000 cobbles refits will last longer too. I see many near misses on a daily basis, with taxis, buses […]

EV CHARGING POINTS.

More electric vehicle charging points please. When new electrics (for the barriers and machines for payment) were installed for Garras Wharf car park, the Council missed the need & opportunity for E.V. charging points. Thank goodness for Tesco – having installed four points. However, the car park charges are, I guess, designed to put drivers […]

Property developers

Please help to stop property developers turning Truro into a concrete jungle. They’re knocking up houses like there’s no tomorrow. It’s happenning all ober Cornwall. More houses that locals can’t afford.second homes for the rich. Communities dying. Our youth moving away to live cheaper elsewhere. So sad. Come and visit Cornwall and go house watching. […]

More atmosphere

Truro used to be a busy, thriving city centre. More recently it has become devoid of pleasant / attractive areas to relax and people stay away. Meanwhile Falmouth is buzzing with people and independent shops. Truro needs more flowers, plants and trees with places to sit to ‘tree bathe’. We could make Boscawen Street the […]

Keeping our traditional cobbled roads and maybe opening it up to be a river again on the piazza like it is in looe. I’d love to see more fun indoor activities. Opportunities for young people

Dredging the Quayside

Bigger hospital

With thousands of new homes being build in and around Truro, and Treliske being the only real big hospital in Cornwall, there desperately needs to be more buildings and wards added, and more investment, incentive, and funding for more young people to aspire to be doctors and nurses. Sole Traders

Cobbled streets, granite pavements and Lear’s make Truro different. It’s old. Regenerate the city by turning back the clock. Encourage small shops and sold traders. Be different from every other town in the UK and capitalise on it’s small city status and what’s left of the ‘quaint’. It will give some traders, artists, craftsman the […]

You can build transport links, but that will not encourage people to attend somewhere with little to do.

The demise of shops in Truro is sad, but something that needs consideration for. People can buy things online, thus improving shopping facilities won’t matter because you cannot compete with the margins of online retailers. I would like to see Truro push forward a green agenda promoting more leisure/recreation space, including celebrating art and cultural […]

Marine Business for Truro

I suggest that the waterfront area between Tesco’s, Boscawen park and newham docks should be cleared of silt and converted in to a marina; similar to successful scheme completed in places such as Lincoln. The town could rent out boat moorings increasing revenue which could be further used to regenerate the area. The waterfronts surrounding […]

Create new spaces

Invest in our children’s future

Children and Young People are our towns future, I feel more needs to be put into child and youth services for preventive work to be done. Truro city development

Stadium for Cornwall

I believe that it should be more central in the county. Maybe out by the services. Out on the A30. Truro is already too big. There is too much out of town shopping and the carparks are far too expensive. I live near devoran so both park and rides are out of the question. Before […]
