Safe overnight stops for Motorhomes

We travel all over this country watching and writing about pantomimes usually over Christmas. It is a real challenge to park and find places to stay overnight, I contact councils in the towns or cities we are visiting and they have been most helpful. We have now joined CAMpRA (Campaign for Real Aires UK) Please […]

Unlock the potential

Wakefield has potential, it is close to Leeds and its rates are much cheaper, this should be exploited! Draw up a plan for the City based upon what is worth keeping, what links need to be improved and then work from there!

Build on our strengths

I feel we would initally benefit from having a safe feeling town centre . we need to have a reason to come to it over parkgate or meadowhall and free parking too. we can’t compete with our neighbours such as sheffield , and meadowhall so let us be diffrent . Encourage small independant buisness, interest […]

Heritage

There are a number of high quality heritage buildings in Wakefield Town Centre which need to be made better use of. Ensuring that these buildings are used and looked after is important. They should form a key part of plans for regeneration.

Green City

Do more to push the low carbon/environmentally friendly agenda. Install more EV charging points (good start so far!) – why not create an EV charging petrol station? Improve our green spaces, they’ve been neglected for so long. Do more to encourage greener travel – park and ride/cycle lanes/improvements to public transport Improve the efficiency of […]

Improve cycle and pedestrian routes

Reducing cars and improving the cycling and pedestrian access around and through the Wakefield center will improve air quality for residents, reduce carbon footprint, reduce need for parking spaces, and improve the health and wellbeing of the residents. Wider, safer pedestrian lanes and a walking center will also make it easier for those with reduced […]

Invest and Develop Thornes Park

Make Thornes Park the Cities central social, cultural and exercise hub. Most cities have beautiful parks with children’s playgrounds, state of the art exercise activities and outdoor equipment including activities for young adults or teenagers. This could include upgrading the skate park, mountain bike track, large cafe, climbing wall/equipment, upgrade fishing lake and introduce petting […]

Green

Create more green spaces. Trees, grass, communal areas. Invest in green/environmentally sustainable projects. Tidy up city centre. Invest in leisure places/activities so there are things to do other than eat and drink. (Bowling, cinema, ice rink, ect.

create a destination

there are many new houses being built around the city – what would it take to get these families to use the centre or other hubs around Wakefield? All development projects should start with research to find out what is actually needed and how to create these communities in the centre. I suggest creating free […]

More bins

A bin at every bus stop. A bin at least at one side of a ginnel. More sensible bins in the park as opposed to metal cages where the wind blows everything out. Larger bins near the children’s play area and extra bins near the skate park. I’m so tired of walking my dog and […]

More for families

Would be nice to have more things to do in wakefield with families, like bowling place where kids can play along adults, ice skating maybe? Somewhere all ages can visit and want to visit regularly, something not crazy overpriced.

Outdoor activity – basketball

Can we have a proper basketball court in Wakefield. Maybe even more than one. With proper surface ( I think it’s called tarmac but don’t quote me on it), with proper baskets. Only for basketball, so the court doesn’t have million other lines for other sports as well. Purely just for basketball. I’m in a […]

Policing

Increase policing in agbrigg area, and increase foot patrols to reduce antisocial behaviour. Spend money on providing young people opportunities whereby they can help the community and contribute, whether this be through paid work or incentives like college credit points or UCAS points etc. Crack down on things like drink driving. Police also need to […]

Renovate the Ridings

Renovate the ridings by making one story shop spaces 2 story. That way shops can fit more produce in them and sell just as much and make just as much as they would do in Leeds for example. And some more shops too such as victoria secret, holister etc. Shops that will stop the residents […]

Lights

I live in Ackton, you can make lights along the road from Ackton direction Normanton and from Ackton to Featherston, a lot of people going to work on this way and here it is really dark in the morning

Food and culture

Spend more money on making it a destination city, full of restaurants and cafe bars. We have the Hepworth… Why not create more galleries, historical landmarks and beautiful parks.

Streets and Improvements

I would like to suggest that the money be spent on repairing roads as many need it and to make sure the money is used to make the city better. To make it better we can add more trees and repair grass locations on streets which have been ruined from people parking on them.

Family Entertainment

More family friendly entertainment complex centres similar to that of Xscape in Castleford. There is next to nothing in Wakefield and so it would be nice to have places that offer bowling, climbing, trampolining or even at a push, ice skating. This would also allow for more people to visit Wakefield.

Pot holes

Improved spending on roads around Wakefield, pot holes are a nightmare and never seem to be sorted fully with them opening up again months after. Some proper funding for the repairs rather than patch jobs would be significant for the area!!

Park areas

Wakefield park, newmillerdam, pugneys and smaller parks like Outwood and wrenthorpe need to become areas that people and families can enjoy again. Wakefield park used to have a warden, there was putting etc. Now the park seems uncared for and doesn’t always seem safe to walk around. Why not spend money on bringing back putting, […]

No more art galleries

An Arena or something along those lines that will bring more people to our city. Or an entertainment place like a bowling place. Clean up the streets from litter add more bins not just in the city centre. And NO MORE ART GALLERIES we don’t need anymore seriously.

Better public transport

More frequent (and reliable) buses. Eg from around Wakefield to the train station – where I live currently the bus is once every 20 minutes and is rarely on time, this is no use if you have a train to catch or if you have been at work all day and just want to get […]

Do not let the council control this

Do not allow the Council to control or make final decisions in spending this money. Council’s across the UK have failed their towns and cities for many years, making poor short term choices and not listening to those who elect them. Council’s are just as much to blame as national government for these towns and […]

Swimming pool in Ossett

Invest in a sports centre /swimming pool in Ossett. There has been talk of one for as long as I remember, would be nice to have that investment in Ossett (and other areas) which don’t have those facilities already.

Activities for families/teens

Families currently have to travel out of Wakefield to do anything other than go to the cinema. We need more activities for families and teens actually in Wakefield such as ice rinks, bowling etc. This would encourage people to visit the city and bring in much needed revenue!

A new state of the art Rugby stadium for our Tean Wakefield Trinity to take it into the next few decades. The current facilities are tired looking facility needs replacing.

Improve the High Street

Down Kirkgate precinct, but mainly Kirkgate road where the old cinema used to be hasn’t seen much love in many years. Some redevelopment to help this area and turn it into useful space instead of derelict buildings and wore pavements.

Buses

Buses for large parts of Wakefield are so infrequent that they can’t actually be relied on. Getting anywhere other than in and out of the city centre takes ages forcing you to rely on a car or taxi. Investing in that would have huge benefits in terms of reducing traffic, making it easier and cheaper […]

Social Housing.

A good proportion of social/affordable housing on the many property developments around Wakefield i.e City Fields. Lower rentals, part buy/part rent. Also don’t discriminate the over 40s in these offers. It’s not just the under 40s desperate to get out of the private rental market.

More city centre attractions for all

More city centre attractions like library, museum , something attractive for the city centre, like a viewing gallery looking out over Yorkshire as we have the tallest Yorkshire spire in our city cathedral. Fun things to do in under used shops in the ridings centre like there is at Xscape, escape rooms, mini golf, bowling, […]

Homeless people

Safe place for homeless people to sleep instead of westgate, especially after the death of a homeless man near ridings. We need this more than upgrading any parts of Wakefield as it will actually improve many people’s lives.

Bike track

In this area alot of off road bikes are being used on the road/canals (illegally). My suggestion is that you build a bike track and allow people to use it free of charge. In doing so the bikers and no longer a road hazard. They will no longer fly threw the woods at 60mph+ because […]

Encourage arts and entertainment in the city, with great links to Live Entertainment campus Production Park in Moorthorpe and the suggestion of a brand new multipurpose concert venue in Wakefield (Former ABC Cinema?) Improve Transport Links from Wakefield to Manchester, with lots of local property popping up have one direct train to Manchester from Wakefield.
