Workington should use Cockermouth as a model on how to look more attractive and appealing to the visitor. The whole town, particularly the town centre needs to be cleaned, modernised and trees planted in the centre. It’s a amazing what trees and ‘natural elements’ do for the general aesthetics and well being of the population. If Workington becomes more appealing this will then attract more of the independent retailers rather than generic pound shops and other chain stores. Workington had the opportunity to build a new stadium in time for the Rugby World Cup- this was turned down. Why? There needs to be more forward thinking and innovative people in leadership, otherwise things will stay exactly as they are. Investing in a new football ground and sports will also help the local economy.
