You have a huge number of creatives in Hastings who are working from home in physical isolation. You have a large number of young people who have limited job prospects and nothing to do after school hours. I’d look at a way to dynamise the community – create more Creative Hubs that encourage internships, apprenticeships and entrepreneurialism. Create more shared facilities for new businesses – kick-start new ventures and reappropriate many of the empty shops in the town centre by offering these spaces to new businesses at subsidised start-up rates. By investing in the heart of the town (not just Old Town) you are tackling anti-social behaviour, town perceptions, and attractiveness and creating the desperately needed jobs. If the heart beats once more, the people will come out of their homes and a united unified progressive society will thrive.
